Why did I choose my major/career?

When I was a child, I remember that I wanted to study meteorology, I liked, and I still like everything related to the weather, observing the clouds, feeling the wind and that feeling in the body that tells you how the weather of the day and the next day will be. But then, I realized that you had to study theoretical factors to know the weather, it was not just a feeling and perception of how the day would be.

Then, I wanted to study obstetrics, I have always found very interesting how the maternal body behaves when the woman is going to give birth, the whole process was so unknown to me that I wanted to be part of something as important as bringing a baby into this world. This dream began to be ruined when I realized that the waters and blood were not compatible with me, so that dream was left behind.

When I had to make the decision of which career to study, I applied for pedagogy in mathematics and physics, and for chemistry and pharmacy. Pedagogy was a profession that was always on my mind, but it had not taken importance until I knew that I had a skill and a passion that I had to polish. So I put it as the first option and here I am!

My university experience has been good, although the management of internships is terrible, however, when I am doing the internship in schools, it makes me feel that I didn't make the wrong choice.

When I'm finished studying, I would like to work for a year in something that is not related to pedagogy, and then I would like to be a teacher in different places, I would like to work in the austral zone doing class, because education is different throughout the country and maybe then try this experience in the north.

Who am I?

Hello everyone! My name is Jazmín Poblete, I was born in Curicó and I moved to Santiago when I started university, or at least that was the plan, my first year of university coincided with the pandemic, so I postponed my trip for two years. I study pedagogy in mathematics and physics, it was never in my plans to study in another region, until I realized that I needed to start over. My family is made up of my father and his five puppies, he lives in the country. On the other hand, there are my two sisters, who are twins, my mother and three puppies, they live in the city. My sisters and I are very close, we love to sleep together, watch series and eat. The three of us have a flower name! I love dogs, eating French fries and getting to know new places. I haven't eaten meat for about 5 years, animals are very important to me, I would like to be vegan, but I love milk and butter very much! When I finish university, I would like to return to my hometown and work in different places in t...

Where I come for?

Currently I live in Santiago. I have lived here since 2022. I decided to come here to study away from my family, to be an independent person. To live in Santiago has been a big challenge, because I didn´t know anyone in that city. However, I don´t regret coming to live here, because I have learned to manage the money and solve my problems alone. When I am finished studying, I would like to come back to live in Curico and to be able to practice my profession close to the people I love. I often miss my family, my pets and the tranquility of my city, but I am afraid of missing my freedom and the new people I have met in this big city.

A person on my field that I admire

Hereunder, I´m going to write about a teacher that I had in basic education, who inspired me to follow this path of education in the area of mathematics. She only taught me for a year, which was enough to change my perspective, her name is Fresia Quezada. Currently, she is a retired teacher; approximately 7 years ago she stopped practicing her profession. Throughout her career, she worked in municipal schools, she believed that municipal education should be free and of the same quality as that of private schools. When I joined the establishment where she worked, apart from teaching classes, she was also head of PTU (Pedagogical Technical Unit). At first, I didn´t like her at all, she had a very strong character, it seemed like she was always angry and her voice was so loud that it always seemed like she was screaming. I remember that it bothered her that they interrupted her while she was teaching classes, because she found it disrespectful. I remember that one day I had to go to ...
